New tool gives podcasters retention analytics for every episode
The popularity of podcasting has exploded in the past few years. In 2020, it is estimated that 75% of Americans are now familiar with podcasting, which is an increase of 10 million in just one year.
To meet this demand, Google recently launched Google Podcasts Manager, a new tool designed to help podcasters learn more about their listeners, including how to reach them more effectively.
Google Podcasts Manager will use a verification process to make sure each user's podcast is available on Google Podcasts . The new tool will give podcasters access to metrics to understand their audience's engagement levels, and how those insights vary from episode to episode.
"This includes retention analytics which help you better understand where people tune in—and when they drop off—along with listening duration, minutes played and more. And you can export the data and plug it into your own analysis tools if you prefer." —Google said in a statement.
The new tool will also include a breakdown of listeners by device. According to Google, this could help guide content strategy. For example, podcasters could make their content shorter for people on the go, or more family-friendly if the data shows that listeners are tuning in on a home speaker.
